Houlihan's Bar & Grill in Schererville, Indiana pulled off a bit of a miracle last night; they made me like cauliflower. Most of you all know that I harbor no love for that bland, bleached-down cousin of broccoli, and that I do all that I can to avoid it. But, having only recently given up m...[continue]
Meeks and I went out on a date this past weekend and she had octopus for the first time. Following our trip to "Artopia: An Immersive Art Experience" we stopped by UMAI Japanese Kitchen & Sushi in downtown Chicago for dinner. The setting and ambiance were exquisite and the food was amazi...[continue]
Just outside of the heart of Downtown Rockford, IL and mere minutes away from the Rock River sits a hidden gem of Vietnamese dining. Nustled in an unassuming storefront on a rather unassuming street sits Hai Qyunh, a small and cozy Vietnamese dining experience waiting to be had. Don’t be fooled by...[continue]
Salmon, Oysters & Scallops at Greenfire Restaurant
This past weekend I was celebrating both my wife's birthday and Valentine's day. As such, it was time for us to drop the kids off at their Nanna's house and get away as a couple for a few days. Those of you who have known me for a while are fully aware by now that [my wife] Meeks' bi...[continue]
This past weekend my wife was looking absolutely too good to just go straight home after church. So, after considering a few places to eat before we went to look at Christmas decorations for our house; we settled on Bonefish Grill in Orland Park, IL. Not the most plant-based friendly restaurant out ...[continue]
I had not been to Olive Garden for ten years due to a bad experience with a hostess and waitress. I won't bring up old news because I'm fairly certain that anyone related to that incident is long gone from the company. So, last night after attending the Judge Mathis show with Meeks; she sai...[continue]
When Meeks and I arrived in New Orleans in the summer of 2018 I was starving. I hadn't eaten a full meal since about 1 o'clock the previous day due to traveling on a tight schedule, so Meeks suggested I try the IHOP, IHOB, or whatever they are now. So I walked over and after browsing the men...[continue]
Meeks loves seafood, specifically crab legs and lobster. With me being plant-based we haven't gone out and eaten at a seafood restaurant together in the 4 years we have been together as a couple. This is because she refuses to let me take her somewhere to eat where the restaurant doesn't hav...[continue]
A Great Place for a Plant-Based/Non-Plant-Based Date
EAT MORE PLANTS Lunch Date at Ming Hin Cuisine in Naperville, IL. REMINDER, one of us is plant-based & the other isn't. With that out of the way; This restaurant is AMAZING. I had been here once about 5 years ago and always wanted to come back on a date. It was well worth the wait. [continue]
Our oldest son had been asking to go to a Hibachi Grill for a few months; so to celebrate his graduation we took him Hamada of Japan. Let me say outright; as an experience; the Hibachi Grill was phenomenal. We had a great cook/waiter and everybody enjoyed their meals... including me.
Weekend eats! We visited The Shanty Restaurant in Wadsworth, IL this weekend. It had been featured on The Food Network, so since we were near the area celebrating Meeks' birthday we decided to give it a shot. There was a 45-minute wait to get a table, but it was well worth it.
This weekend was Tamekia's birthday, so of course a nice dinner out on the town was part of the weekend plans. I made reservations for us at Cooper's Hawk, a winery, so I knew going in that plant-based options would be few. No worries though, this was her night and I felt Cooper's Hawk w...[continue]
FUN FACT: Potbelly Sandwich Shop no longer has their veggie sub on the menu. You can still get it so long as it's still in the system; but the only thing resembling a plant-based option on their menu now is a Portobello Mushroom melt (sans the melt of course). I didn't have time to meal prep...[continue]
A Great Place to Eat Plants With People Who Eat Meat
Whether you've given up meat, are trying to give up meat or simply add endeavoring to add more plants into your diet; one of the hardest social activities to navigate is eating out. I was completely raw vegan by the time Tamekia and my relationship progressed to dating and eating out, and althou...[continue]
I picked this fruit bowl up from the grocery store for $3.99 USD, which is less than the cost of a fast food value meal. This is two full meals for me. So, instead of rolling through the drive thru, consider running into the grocery store for some pre cut fruit.
